Weekend

I'm trying to not get lazy about blogging my adventures, but it is really easy to get lazy and not blog about anything. Must not get lazy! I think I'm starting to get a fan circle since I've told a few people about this blog, and they really like reading my adventures.

Anyway, Saturday was absolutely fun. Though... the farm part was slightly boring in the beginning of the day, and it was really really REALLY humid and hot. Worst of all, my monthly came and I was standing in the heat, drenched in sweat and not being able to feel that I was leaking. For all the guys out there, be GLAD that you're not a girl... Absolutely a miserable experience (not to mention forgetting to bring extra pads...). Ok, enough about the "girly" stuff and on with the story. So the day started out with me having to get up early to catch the JR train to Kemihamagawa (I think that's how it's spelled). I again thought I went to far and missed the station, so got off on the one before. I will one day get this whole train system down in under my belt one of these days! After getting back on the train and getting off at the right station, I saw my cousin, and was heading to the car, but then realized that I hadn't eaten breakfast at all. Boy was that embarassing. I ran out the door without eating breakfast... But my cousin was nice and let me run to get a bun at the nearby store. Of course it was a melon pan. I don't know how many melon pans I've eaten since coming here. I think I've been having at least one a day! No wonder I've gotten so fat...

The first stop was going around to the farm. My cousin took two of her friends with her, so there were four of us all together. The first farm we went to was a carrot farm. I didn't take a picture of it since all you'd see in the picture would be carrot leaves and not the carrots themselves. My cousin did most of the talking because she's really into healthy eating and making V8 type smoothies. At the end, the lady farmer gave my cousin three carrots to try. They looked really fresh, and my cousin was really excited! The next stop was the corn farm. I must say, eating fresh corn is absolutely AMAZING. I personally don't eat very much corn, but nothing can beat eating corn fresh off the stalk! The sweet juciness and crunchiness... Absolutely fantastic! My cousin was able to buy the corn from the farmer, and after we were done at the farm, we went back to cook the corn at the guide's place, and the taste, I can't even describe how good it tasted. No butter, no nothing. Just straight up corn on the cob. *sigh*

After visiting the farm, we went to Narita and there was a festival going on. I forget what the festival is called, but it was really fun to watch. I got to see them going around pulling this big wagon. What was even funnier was seeing a kid version of the thing. Really cute to watch~. After watching the parades, we went up to the Japanese temple that opens only once a year called Naritasan park. I don't want to bombard this post with pictures, so I'll post the rest of the pictures up on Picasaweb and link them here. It was really neat to see Japanese architecture. It's very similar to Chinese architecture.

The last stop of the day was to an old Japanese street that looked very much like an old Chinese street. It was interesting seeing how much similarity there was between the Japanese street and the Chinese street. I really do enjoy this type of history. I like the older part of Chinese and Japanese history. The architecture and culture is quite a different world from today. I was able to get a souvenir of a Japanese painting. I really like it. The scene is people walking over a bridge, and in the background there are the mountains. I can't wait to bring it home and frame it~! Overall, it was a fun and exciting day. If I get a chance to go back to both these places, I'll definitely explore more. We didn't get very far that day because we were all pretty tired. I actually slept all the way back to the JR station.

On Sunday, I made a complete nosedive into exploring Shinjuku... my god that place is enough to make my head spin. Getting there wasn't really a problem, but it was getting out that got me lost. I actually went in the wrong direction coming out of the JR station. I headed towards all the government offices which was a big mistake because there was nothing to see except big buildings. Though, I did get to see people filming a drama in front of one of the buildings that day. It was really really hot, and I felt really bad for the extras who had to wear suits and a tie. I did want to take a picture, but didn't because I didn't want them chasing after me in order to delete the picture and have a whole mess of copyright infringement and exposing what was up and coming in the drama. But it was fun seeing how the filming process works. So, I headed back towards the JR station and walked in the other direction, where I found a small shopping district. I really picked the wrong day to go because there were TONS of people walking around in the shops and a mad frenzy for all the on sale items, which was practically everything in every store. Note to self, never go shopping on a weekend in Japan. I did manage to find a few cards and MONO erasers. That was practically my weekend. Nothing much happened on the first day of school. Just orientation and stuff. I'll have more stuff to blog about school tomorrow because that's when the first class really begins. Should be interesting~
